Hotdogs blow off T’Chargers

SAN JOSE, Antique – Purefoods exploited to the hilt its advantage on matchups versus Shell Velocity and the Hotdogs notched their second straight win in the PBA Governors Cup with a 105-97 win over the Turbo Chargers in the first ever PBA game played in this province last night.

Derrick Brown, Andy Seigle and EJ Feihl produced huge numbers against Jun Marzan, Mark Telan and John Morton, leading the Hotdogs to their followup win on a 90-87 decision over the Alaska Milkmen in the tournament opener last Sunday.

Brown scored a game-high 30 points while Seigle hit 16 points, including 10 in the second quarter, and Feihl fired 13, the bulk coming in the third quarter against Morton to the delight of the good Saturday crowd at the Evelio Javier Sports Center.

Brown, Seigle and Feihl proved to be Purefoods’ best performers in the game although the team also drew fine showing from veteran mainstays Alvin Patrimonio and Dindo Pumaren, who wound up with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Hotdogs got off to a sizzling start, taking the initiative, 19-10, right away, and hardly flinching as the Turbo Chargers closed in at the onset of the payoff quarter.

Riding the efforts of Dale Singson and Telan, the Turbo Chagers chopped their 76-67 lead at the end of the third to 89-83 entering the final four minutes of play.

That proved to be Shell’s last hurrah, though, as Brown hit a triple, putting order back in Purefoods’ game.

The Turbo Chargers continued to struggle on the floor with coach Perry Ronquillo still keeping Benjie Paras on the bench although the 6-foot-5 slotman was declared by his doctor to return to active duty.

Meanwhile, Commissioner’s Cup finalists San Miguel Beer and Sta. Lucia Realty return to action today, shooting for their second straight win against separate opponents at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Beermen take the floor first at 4:15 p.m. versus the Phone Pals before the Realtors go up against the Barangay Ginebra Kings at 6:30 p.m.

San Miguel trounced Ginebra, 94-72, while Sta. Lucia nipped Mobiline, 80-77, at the Philsports Arena Wednesday.
