Former champion Dasmariñas threw the full weight of its star-studded roster and scored 282 Stableford points to post a whopping 36-point victory over Magallanes in the first round of the Makati series of the Infocom Intervillage golf championship Wednesday.
Not even the wind-raked, ravine-laced Sherwood Hills course in Cavite could slow down the fired-up Dasmariñas golfers, whose scoring was so impressive that their seventh man's output was enough to power the team to victory in this 18-to-play, eight-to-count event.
Ikram Arshad fired the maximum 38 points under the Stableford scoring format, Mike Besa put in a 37, while Byron Chua and Yuni Jamme each scored a 36 to lead Dasmariñas' romp in this event among villages in Makati and Mandaluyong and sponsored by Infocom and PLDT.
Magallanes has two of its mainstays -- Noel Legaspi and Emil Alviar -- making 38 points but hardly drew support from the rest of the squad as it settled for second with 246 with Bel-Air finishing third with 241, Wack Wack (233) and Forbes-Ecology (71).
Aside from motivating the members to dish out their best, team captain Jose Cedo also figured in the scoring parade with 35 points backed by Byron Chua's 34 and the 33s by Teboy Javier and Rey Valdez, either of which would've been enough to beat the opposition with a 249 total.
The event is organized by Videocom in 1991 and supported by Home Cable, Smart Communications, Alaxan, ICTSI, BJ Marthel International, Menzi and Co., STI College, Callaway-Odyssey and McCallan Whisky.
