German duo

- Joey Villar -
gains finals

The German pair of Philipp Kohlschreiber and Simon Stadler carved out two tough victories yesterday to advance into the finals of the 11th Mutsubishi Lancer International Juniors Tennis Championship boys doubles event at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts.

A day after stunning top pick Josh Burman and Chris Martin of the United States in the first round, 6-1, 6-3, the German duo outplayed the tandem of Robert Lindhe of Sweden and Thomas Macquet of South Africa, 6-0, 7-6 (3) in the quarterfinals before scoring another upset, this time at the expense of the third-seeded duo of Panu Karanes and Pramote Malasitt of Thailand, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.

Those victories by Kohlschreiber and Stadler, who also both advanced in the quarterfinals of the singles event which resumes today, set them up against the second-seeded pair of Wang Yeu Tzuoo of Chinese Taipei and Prakash Armitraj of the US, who thumped No. 4 KC Corkery and Matthew Emery of the US, 6-3, 6-1.

In the distaff side, the top-seeded Indonesian pair of Dea Sumantri and Angelique Widjaja outlasted Great Britain's Melissa Berry and Anne Keothavong, 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-1, to advance into the semis.
