Subic braces for Asian speedfest
Subic will become the newest mecca for racing fans when the much-awaited "Asian Festival of Speed" is held on April 29-30 at the Subic International Raceway.
Racing fans and auto aficionados from all over the region are expected to flock to the 2.8-kilometer racetrack situated near the shores of picturesque Subic Bay for the racing competitions.
Two of the featured events in the two-day competition organized by Motorsports Asia Ltd. (Malaysia) and the Sports Values, Inc. (SVI) are the Asian Touring Car Championship and the Asian Formula 2000, which bring together the finest competition drivers in the region.
Heading the cast of foreign participants are 1999 champion Charles Kwan, Chen Jun San, Albert Au, Danny Stacy Chau, Henry Lee Jr. and a few others with experience in the China Touring Car Series and making their first trip to the Philippines.
Aside from the international events, some of the country's top motorsports competitions will also be held during the festival.
These are the Petron XCS Championship, BF Goodrich Challenge Cup, SVI Production Series, Pennzoil Jet Ski, Shell Helix Slalom, National Rallye Series, Manila Sports Car Club Vintage Races and the Miata Club Speed Trial.
Also scheduled during the long Labor Day weekend evening will be a race party and a bikini contest at the seaside racetrack.
