Asean seniors amateur golf set at Riviera GCC
Preparations are now under way for the staging of the 17th Asean Seniors Amateur Golf Championship & Tournament which will be held simultaneously at the Legends course of Manila Southwoods and the Couples course of the Riviera Golf and Country Club March 29-31.
Brig. Gen. Telesforo J. Tayko Jr. (Ret.), president of the host Federation of Philippine Senior Golfers, Inc., announced that more than 300 entries are expected to participate in the annual golfing event.
Two hundred foreign golfers coming from the other members nations of the Asean Senior Golf Association -- Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand -- will be joining the 100-strong RP contingent.
Hosting of the event is done on a rotation basis among the present six-member nations.
Villamor was the last Philippine club to host the event in 1995.
"Foreign senior golfers look forward to coming to the Philippines to enjoy the fellowship and savor Filipino hospitality," said Tayko. "With the support of corporate friends and benefactors, we know we can organize a successful tournament."
Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Vicente C. Rivera Jr. is the chairman of the Executive Committee. Members are Tayko, Cong. Gilberto M. Duavit, Cong. Eduardo R. Ermita, chairman Frisco San Juan, Arsenio Yulo Jr., Gen. Telesforo J. Tayko Jr. (Ret.), Robert John Sobrepeña and Commo. Danilo Pizarro (Ret.)
Joining Tayko in the organizing committee are Federico Carandang (Tournament), Varden Dangilan and Ricardo Consunji Jr. (Program & Invitation), Evangelo Savelano (Budget), Salvador P. Malbarosa and Jose Ma. Abola (Secretariat/Publicity), Pompeyo Nolasco (Ways & Means), Rodolfo Samson, (Ways & Means), Antonio Fernando (Souvenir Program), Justice Raoul Victorino (Banquet), Gen. Antonio Abaya (Ret.) (Accommodations) and Gen. Carlos Tanega (Ret) (Giveaways).
Glenmarie in Malaysia hosted the last Asean Seniors with the Malaysians expectedly dominating both the individual and team competitions.
