Welcoat goes for sweep

Sitting on a two-game cushion, Welcoat thinks the series is all over except the final coating.

And the Paintmasters vow to do it tonight and paint the town red.

The Paintmasters try to make it three in a row versus the embattled Ana Water Dispensers at 6 p.m. for a sweep of their best-of-five showdown for the second Yakult PBL Challenge crown at the Makati Coliseum.

So confident is Welcoat coach Junel Baculi that he declared it's all over after tonight's game.

He thinks nothing - not even Paolo Mendoza - can stop his Paintmasters from winning the crown and completing a double-championship in the season.

"If we're going out there the way we did in Game Two, no one can stop us from winning the title, not even with Paolo Mendoza around," said Baculi.

Welcoat took Game One quick and easy, 65-55, and returned to take Game Two quicker and easier, 83-71.

"We're feeling the terrible effect of the absence of Paolo. So we're hoping and praying he could play for us in Game Three. We desperately need him there," said Ana coach Jimmy Mariano.

However, Mendoza remains a doubtful starter with a swollen left ankle. He aggravated the injury while attending their practice before Game Two.

"Sabi ng doctor baka pwede na raw ako by Monday (today). Sana nga pwede na dahil I really want to play because I want to win another PBL title before eventually joining the PBA," said Mendoza.

Without Mendoza, Mariano said their last recourse is to try to stop Welcoat's deadly wingmen at all cost.
