For ‘Physical abuse’; Fiscal endorses charges vs Frenchman

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — The Negros Oriental Provincial Prosecutor’s Office had endorsed the filing of charges against a French national for violation of  Republic Act 9262, or the Violence Against Women and Children law.

Commission on Human Rights-Negros Oriental special investigator Jess Cañete said on Tuesday he received a copy of a resolution from the prosecutor’s office recommending the filing of formal charges against the 63-year-old Frenchman, Philippe Sencier.

Sencier, whose present address is in Suludpan of  Bacong town, Negros Oriental, will be charged specifically for physical abuse under R.A. 9262, according to the CHR-Negros Oriental chief.

Cañete last month investigated a complaint filed against Sencier by his ex-girlfriend of four years who alleged that Sencier posted nude pictures of her online after their break-up.

The CHR official then filed the complaint at the provincial prosecutor’s office against Sencier in behalf of the complainant, who alleged that the foreign national beat her up and made her engage in “distasteful sexual acts.”

Two other French nationals here, Michel Vautier and Philip Faure, also appeared with their respective wives last month at the CHR office to also file a complaint against Sencier.

They divulged to the CHR chief that Sencier allegedly sent them pictures of nude Filipinas that “tend to undermine and insult Filipinos.”

Sencier is reportedly still in the province, according to Cañete, who expressed relief that finally, the complaint has been acted upon and will now be elevated to the courts. (FREEMAN)
