Motorcycle, tricycle collision: 3 die, 4 hurt

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Three hours before the New Year, three people, including two minors, were killed while four others were injured following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a tricycle at Barangay Bato in Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental.

Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, identified the fatalities as motorcycle driver Aldrin Ambong, 19, of Barangay Bato; and tricycle passengers Joshua Amar, 15, and his 11-year-old brother, John Michael, of Barangay Aranda, also of Hinigaran.

Those injured were tricycle driver Jennifer Amar, 20, and her nephews, aged 13 and 15; and motorcycle back rider James Genevota, 25.

Chief Inspector Lino Dalisay, Hinigaran Police chief, said the speeding motorcycle, driven by Ambong, overtook another vehicle but collided head-on with the incoming tricycle at around 9 p.m. of December 31.

Ambong failed to notice the incoming tricycle, driven by Amar, at the slope and the impact of the crash detached the side car of the tricycle and wrecked its roof, Dalisay said, adding that the motorcycle was at high speed.

Dalisay said all the victims were rushed to a hospital but the three—motorcycle driver Ambong and his minor-brothers were declared dead upon arrival. The other victims were still confined at a hospital in Bacolod City.

No cases will be filed as the motorcycle driver (Ambong) was already dead, said Dalisay, although he appealed to the relatives to extend financial assistance to the Amar family. (FREEMAN)
