DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines  — Senators Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero yesterday inducted into office the new set of officers of the Kapisanan ng Mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas–Negros Oriental chapter and the Dumaguete Press Club, Incorporated.

Inducted were officers of the Dumaguete Press Club, headed by its president, Juancho Gallarde of Sky Cable TV and those of the KBP-Negros Oriental, led by its president, Sherlyn Abella Infante of DyRM-AM.

Poe and Escudero were later joined by Representative Roman Romulo (lone district, Pasig City), in what appeared to be already part of the nationwide tour of the Poe-Escudero tandem for the presidential and vice presidential seats in the 2016 polls.

In a press conference, after the induction rites, the two senators gave an update on Poe’s natural born-citizen issue. She said the Senate Election Tribunal is still hearing the disqualification case and is expected to come up with a decision in November.

Poe was confident with her case, and that she already submitted the required evidences. She believed that a child found in the streets of a particular country should be recognized as a citizen of that country.

Escudero also insisted his legal view that a foundling is a natural-born citizen. They reiterated to the local media that, through their campaign, they will discuss their platforms and programs, including tax reforms and the Freedom of Information Bill. — Judy Flores Partlow (FREEMAN)
