Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Dumaguete City will definitely join the celebration of the Negros Oriental’s Buglasan Festival this year, according to Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria in response to insinuations that local government units, not politically-aligned with Governor Roel Degamo will not be participating in the annual event.

Sagarbarria said that Dumaguete, as a capital city of Negros Oriental, will join Buglasan to allow talented Dumagueteños show their wares in sports, dancing, singing, balitaw, booth presentation, indigenous culinary competitions, street dances and various cultural contests.

The mayor however was unsure on how much funds the city government will allocate for the festival, but assured the public that it will look for sources to finance contingents participating in different events of Buglasan.

Earlier, Degamo had called on Negrenses and political leaders to set aside political leanings and join the Buglasan, which will officially start on October 16, incidentally the last day of the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2016 elections.

This early, at least 12 competing festivals from various towns are expected to participate in the Buglasan Festival of Festivals’ showdown and street dancing competition on October 23.

Degamo added that this year’s Buglasan budget is P5 million.
