UNDP provides tools, seeds to barangays

Edgar Allan Vilbar - The Freeman

NAVAL, BILIRAN, Philippines – Assorted high-value vegetable seeds and livelihood tools were turned over to barangay chairmen of Libtong, Villa Caneja, Lucsoon, Capi and Imelda in this town, during a turnover ceremony inside the Municipal Hall.

The United Nations Development Programme area coordinator Dario Cubelo turned over the seed and tool packs to the barangay officials in the presence Mayor Susan Parilla.

The UNDP packs, intended for 100 beneficiaries of these five barangays, also consisted of scissors and soldering irons to be sued for the recycling of plastic containers into plant pots.

The distribution of seeds and support tools was a result of the Backyard Organic Gardening Technology Training, under the UNDPs livelihood project for typhoon Yolanda’s recovery program.

Cubelo, in his speech, said the recycling of plastic pots would be used for urban gardening, in answer to the scarcity of lots and reduction of plastic waste in dump sites.
