Catbalogan urges tourists to spend summer in Samar
CATBALOGAN CITY , Philippines — The Samar Tourism Council has encouraged tourists to experience the many water attractions in the province where tourists can have a refreshing vacation through the hot summer months, according to a report from PIA-8.
Governor Sharee Ann Tan, in a meeting with agency partners and the private sector to push eco-tourism in Samar, said the island is the country’s third largest with many tourist destinations, including undisturbed and unexplored mountains.
Tan said that, in Basey town, tourists can explore the Sohoton Cave, inside the 840-hectare Sohoton Natural Park, which features limestone walls, a rock bridge, an underground river and lush forest.
According to TripAdvisor blog, Sohoton Cave ranks number 6 in tourist destinations in the country, and is also deemed among the top 100 attractions in Samar island.
Samar also boasts of the Ulot Torpedo Boat Ride at Barangay Tenani in Paranas town, which has been drawing more people who love extreme adventure.
Torpedo, besides referring to the torpedo-like boats the tourists ride through the river rapids, also stands for Tenani Boat Operators for River Protection and Environmental Development.
Ulot is a 31-kilometer long river where a river cruise weaves in and out of large stones maneuvered by the best boatmen, who were former lumberjacks and now protectors of the forest and the environment.—From the wires (FREEMAN)
