Dumaguete LGU set to implement same wage rate in private sector

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Dumaguete City government will be implementing the minimum wage law presently enjoyed by the private sector, in response to clamor by job order employees for fairness after long years of service in the city.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria believed that the present rate of job order employees is not anymore commensurate and not proportionate to the spiraling cost of basic commodities.

Sagarbarria said he saw no difference between employees in the private sector and JO workers of the City Hall, regarding basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter.

The  daily rate of each JO was raised from P200 to P250 starting this year, and the mayor said he wanted to fully implement the minimum daily wage for Dumaguete at P310 per day by June or July this year, depending however on the availability of funds.

As a consequence, employees with daily wage higher than those of the JOs will also be adjusted, he said. —Juancho R. Gallarde (FREEMAN)
