Dumaguete City raises real property taxes

Judy Flores Partlow - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  The Dumaguete City local government unit has announced that most of the real properties in this Negros Oriental capital have appreciated in value due to the implementation of the General Revision of all real properties.

Cristina Merced, In Charge of Office-City Treasurer, said the assessment of most of the real properties in Dumaguete has increased and consequently, a corresponding property tax increase will also take effect this year.

In this connection, real property owners who have paid in advance their taxes are advised to visit the City Treasurer’s Office to settle and/or pay the remaining taxes (tax difference) of their properties.

Those who will pay the tax difference this month can still avail themselves of the 15 percent discount, according to Merced, adding that any payment made starting in February will have 10 percent discount, while those in March will have a five percent discount.

Further, the CTO advised the public to visit first the City Assessor’s Office to secure the new tax declarations of their respective properties before paying.  (FREEMAN)
