Ormoc City Council oks tricycle fare rollback

Lalaine Jimenea - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A tricycle minimum fare rollback, from P7 to P6, has been approved by the Ormoc City Council, as requested by the Ormoc Chamber of Commerce and Industry Incorporated.

The OCCI, headed by former Philippine Basketball Association cager Rey Evangelista, noted in a resolution submitted to the council a series of reduction in prices of fuel, which it said "will continue and therefore the reduction in minimum fare is proper and logical."

The OCCI also viewed the fare rollback as "beneficial to lower the cost of living in Ormoc City and this further is contributory to the promotion of industrial peace," believing further it would "do a great service to the riding public, especially the students."

The City Council ordinance, reducing the fare rate, will take effect immediately after publication and posting. The city licensing is tasked at giving out the new "tariff cards" that should be prominently displayed in all the city tricycles.

Meanwhile, a three-committee joint meeting is scheduled soon to tackle another OCCI resolution asking why the prices of petroleum, oil and lubricants in Ormoc are at least P5 higher than in Baybay City and Hilongos town, and P2 more that in towns next to this city.
