For Papal visit Ormoc LGU asks Aquino to declare holidays in city

Edgar Allan Vilbar - The Freeman

ORMOC CITY, Philippines – The city government had requested President Benigno Simeon Aquino III to declare a 3-day non-working holiday during the period of the Pope Francis visit.

The City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2015-006 requesting for the president’s declaration, citing the safety and convenience of residents who want to join the papal visit and those within the city’s “dropping or transition points” for pilgrims from other areas, within and outside of Eastern Visayas.

City Mayor Edward Codilla said: “The resolution has already been forwarded to the president on January 12. We’ll just wait for Malacañang Palace’s favorable response.”

The resolution, if approved by the president, listed the dates of January 15, 16 and 17 as special (non-working) days in this city.
