Negros Occ. Comelec ready for SK polls
CEBU, Philippines - Whether or not there will be Sangguniang Kabataan elections on February 21, the Commission on qq Elections in Negros Occidental said it is ready.
Provincial elections supervisor Jessie Suarez said a total of 80,756 young voters were registered in the province, including Bacolod City, and that the 45-day elections period will start on January 22 until March 2, along with the ban on carrying firearms or other deadly weapons.
Suarez said preparations have been going on. “We are preparing the list of the SK voters, the projected precincts and the teachers who will serve in the election,” and that elections paraphernalia are expected to be delivered next week.
The filing of the certificate of candidacy has been set on February 7, 9 and 10, while the campaign period will be from February 11 to 19.
On Election Day, youth voters will choose one SK chairman and seven SK council members,
Comelec records showed that Bacolod City has the highest number of SK voters at 6,429 followed by Kabankalan City with 4,803; Bago City (4,682); Cadiz City (4,263); and Silay City (3,325).
On the other hand, Don Salvador Benedicto town posted the lowest number of youth voters with 591 followed by Candoni (774); Pulupandan (788); San Enrique (997); and Valladolid (1,076). (FREEMAN)
