Alert up in Negros Occ as Seniang intensifies

The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — As storm Seniang intensified yesterday, Negros Occidental was placed on alert status, with all responders and emergency vehicles on standby, and public health personnel and social workers ready.

Provincial Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr., named acting governor from December 24 this year to January 3 next year, announced that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as well as other local DRRMCs have been ordered to be on full alert status.

Escalante said relief goods were ready for distribution when needed, and that "other personnel of key offices shall be on call to assist when deemed necessary."

The acting governor also directed the mayors to assess the situation in their respective areas and decide on the need for preemptive evacuation of residents from critical areas due to possible threats like landslides, flooding and storm surge. — Marchel P. Espina (FREEMAN)
