CORELLA, BOHOL, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines inaugurated yesterday its Bohol backbone transmission project in this town, about 11 kilometers north of Tagbilaran City.

Governor Edgar Chatto led the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon at Barangay Sambog of this town, together with Mayor Jose Nicanor Tocmo, Barangay Chairman Isabelo Daquipil, Carmelino de Leon, NGCP’s special assistant to ACTO-planning and Engineering and other officials of the company.

Chatto said the province is supporting the project that benefits everyone and gives confidence to Bohol, especially on power needs, a year after the earthquake devastation last year.

Jung Bae Kim, vice president of Hyosung Corporation, and Liang Jing Chao, deputy general manager of China XD Corporation, among the suppliers of NGCP, hoped that the partnership will continue to help in the development of Bohol.

“NGCP firmed up its commitment to the continuous improvement of the existing power transmission system when it announced on October 16 the completion of the project,” company officials said.

The project could accommodate load growth and address the low voltage limitations in Bohol, improve the system reliability and operational flexibility and extend service to un-energized rural areas of the province, they said.

NGCP has completed the installation and construction of 92.27 circuit-kilometers of 138-kilovolt overhead transmission lines to and from Ubay town, about 125 kms to Corella, and the 9 circuit-kms of 69-KV transmission lines from here to Cortes town via steel towers and steel pole structures. —Ric V.
