Road widening project affects 6,000 houses

Primo A. Cayubit - The Freeman

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – At least 6,000 houses of this city will be affected by the implementation of the road widening project along the national highway, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.

DPWH-Tacloban District Engineer Arnaldo Bonifacion said the project, which has already started in the city, will affect 6,178 families.

The road widening spans across several barangays from the districts of San Jose and Nula-tula to Marasbaras, the boundary of this city and Palo town, said Bonifacio.

He added that the affected households had been informed about the project even before Yolanda struck last year.

Bonifacio said the project will initially carry out the 20-meter width expansion of the national highway, instead of 30 meters, as planned before.
