Marañon backs “Albee for senator”

Marchel P. Espina - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has endorsed 3rd district Representative Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez for senator in the 2016 elections.

Marañon, in talks with Senate President Franklin Drilon and Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito, said Benitez has good chances of winning in the 2016 polls should the latter decides to run for senator.

Distrito also told Drilon that Benitez, as a senator, can pour in more projects on the city and the province for being an “Ilonggo country.”

He said: “It is really high time that Bacolodnons and Negrosanons should unite to a candidate for national office that will give a sincere commitment to provide Bacolod and Negros development projects.”

Distrito and Marañon pushed for federalism and election of senators by provinces or regions as a better alternative to give equal representation in the Senate.

“That’s why I’m pushing for Albee to run,” said the governor, adding that senators should be elected by district to give chance to those who are not known nationwide has good chances of winning.
