P420T, cellphones lost in daylight robbery

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Riding-in-tandem men robbed the newly withdrawn money, amounting to P420,000, three mobile phones and the bank passbook from two employees of HOL Marketing, in another daylight robbery at Barangay of Our Lady of Lourdes in Jaro district of this city yesterday morning.

April Joy Garillos, 26, secretary of HOL Marketing based in La Paz district, just came from the bank and was riding a motorcycle, driven by Joemarie Amboboyong, when two men in another motorcycle waylaid and held the two workers up, then grabbed the money from the bag of the victims.

The robbers then sped off towards the direction of the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz. They could not be identified because they were wearing helmets, sunglasses and jackets.

HOL Marketing is into the business of supplying rum bottles to a distillery company in Bacolod City.

Chief Insp. Rhea Santos, Jaro Police chief, believed that the robbers had patterned the victims' routine. He however assured the public that all angles are now being considered by investigators, including the possibility of an inside job.

Santos said it is now too early yet to say that the incident was perpetrated by the same riding-in-tandem people in two robberies more than a week ago.

Last May 21, a cafeteria owner fell prey to a motorcycle-riding snatcher at Barangay Rizal in La Paz, losing her P10,000 cash and mobile phone.

The day before that, Allan Loredo, 46, an employee of LBC Express, claimed he lost P143,000 cash to snatchers. He said he had just withdrawn money from a bank when the incident happened. (FREEMAN)
