Peace, order funds used in greening, Bantay Lasang program

Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Peace and Order Council of Negros Oriental recently recommended for the reversion of funds intended for peace and order efforts and initiatives into other purposes, such as the government's national greening and Bantay Lasang program.

Governor Roel Degamo, in his letter to the Provincial Board last March 12, requested for the reversion of P2 million (allotted for peace and order efforts-aid to the Philippine National Police) and another P2 million (for fuel, oil and lubricants for the PPOC monitoring) and use these funds for the rice subsidy of Bantay Lasang members.

Last May 2, Degamo also requested the PB to reverse P1.032 million fund for peace and order initiatives-forest protection and hiring of Bantay Gubat personnel-and use P832,00 of it to buy rice for Bantay Gubat and P200,000 for operation and maintenance of PPOC.

Both requests were presented and approved during the PPOC meeting this week.  (FREEMAN)
