Palo Archdiocese gets donation of 150 bancas
BABATNGON, LEYTE, Philippines — Survivors of typhoon Yolanda in Leyte province now stand to receive livelihood assistance of 150 paddled wooden bancas, donated by the Marriage Encounter of the Philippines, Inc. through the Archdiocese of Palo (Leyte).
The turnover ceremony, held at Brgy. Rizal in this town on Tuesday morning, was attended by former economic adviser Robert Aventajado of the Estrada administration, MEFP officers, lawyers Jun Dazo and Elmer Sy, regional forestry director Danilo Javier and DENR-8 executive director Leonardo Sibbaluca.
Reverend Fr. Isagani Petilos, representing Palo Archbishop John Du, received the donation during the rites that were also attended by the selected beneficiaries, priests and nuns of the Archdiocese and Babatngon Councilor Leny Lugnasin,
The identification of the intended beneficiaries was done earlier by the Archdiocese of Palo, through the parish priests of their respective parishes.
The MEFP is the umbrella organization of about 100 marriage encounter’s communities, which apostolate has been to strengthen marriage bonds among couples and to evangelize on the knowledge of married life.
Petilos, in his message, thanked the donor by saying that “as we receive grace, we must also live in and, by the grace we receive, invoking God by thanksgiving, praise and worship.â€
Aventajado said the donation was MEFP’s initiative as part of its social outreach projects to help especially those who were adversely affected by Yolanda.
Sibbaluca, after thanking MEFP, announced that DENR Sec. Ramon Paje will be coming to Eastern Visayas, either on the 1st or 2nd week of June this year, to turnover 200,000 board feet of lumber and 500 to 1,000 boats made from confiscated timber in Zamboanga, to help Yoland victims for their livelihood.
