Freeman Region

50T jobs up for grabs today

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Unemployed? The Department of Labor and Employment announced Tuesday that close to 50,000 will be up for grabs during the Labor Day job fair on May 1.

It will be held on three venues: in Iloilo Provincial Capitol, in SM City-Iloilo, and in SM City-Bacolod.

Almost 200 already signified their intentions to join the fair.

In Iloilo City, 134 local companies and overseas recruitment agencies offered 24,925 vacancies while Bacolod City's 54 local and overseas recruitment firms will be making available 25,000 jobs.

Ponciano Ligutom, DOLE Region 6 director, urged jobseekers to participate and find a job that suits their qualifications.

Ligutom also advised jobseekers to apply to at least 3 to 5 companies to increase their chance of getting hired.

That goes without saying, he added, that applicants should be armed with several copies of detailed résumé, transcript of record, 2 x 2 pictures, certificates of  employment  (if any), Professional Regulation Commission license and certificates of competencies, if any.

For overseas employment, jobseekers are urged to bring, in addition to the above documents, copies of passport.

Aside from the job fair, DOLE will also hold other activities at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, which is the center of  this year’s Labor Day celebration. — (FREEMAN)
