Dumaguete City, Negros Or join Earth Hour observance
CEBU, Philippines - The Dumaguete City government and the Negros Oriental provincial government are joining the nationwide observance of Earth Hour today, when people around the world will simultaneously switch off their lights for at least an hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Philippine time).
City Administrator William Ablong said the Capitol also wrote City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria about the event, which is a symbolic act of the global campaign for efficient energy use and collective action against climate change.
Ablong said the city government will switched off the lights along Rizal Boulevard, Quezon Park and City Hall, as he urged the public, city employees and business establishments to join in the Earth Hour observance.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection-Dumaguete conducted fire drill yesterday at Hotel Essencia as part of its continuing information and education campaign on fire awareness.
The drill was aimed at teaching employees and customers of business firms on what to do during fire, such as on evacuation, first aid, firefighting, use of fire extinguishers, traffic control and security, among others.
Participants in the fire drill included BFP Rescue and fire volunteers, One Rescue, Silliman University Rescue, Chinese Volunteers, Rescue 348, staff and management of Hotel Essencia and City Disaster Office personnel, to name a few. (FREEMAN)
