Autopsy reveals: Capalla can’t survive head wounds

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Even if slain former rebel leader Romeo Capalla was brought for treatment seconds after he was shot, it would still be almost impossible for him to survive, according to Supt. Owen Lebaquin, PNP Regional Crime Laboratory medico-legal officer.

Capalla sustained two gunshot wounds on the head, both of which entered on the right side, with one going through and exiting at the back of his head. “Given his injuries, he would have died shortly after the bullets were pumped on him,” Lebaquin said, adding that Capalla seemed to be taller than the gunman.

Investigators have already came up with a computer-generated facial composite of one of the two gunmen, but these were temporarily withheld from public disclosure pending a follow-up operation.

The 65-year-old Capalla, younger brother of Davao Archbishop Emeritus Fernando Capalla, was shot dead by two gunmen Saturday evening in Oton town of Iloilo. —(FREEMAN)
