Truck accident two killed, nine injured
BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — Two women died and nine other passengers were injured, when a cargo truck they were riding went wayward downhill and turned upside down on a mountainous road in Isabela town, Negros Occidental Saturday afternoon, police said.
Senior Insp. Ramil Sarona, Isabela police chief, said the victims were on their way to Bacolod City, on board a Fuso Fighter cargo vehicle, loaded with agricultural products, when the accident took place at Brgy. Cabcab in this town.
Police identified the victims as Evangeline Francisco, 47, and Hylen Secan, 45, who both died on-the spot. Francisco's head was crushed on the railings of the truck, while Sicon's body was found by the police covered by assorted crops.
Those injured were Dante Bot-oy, 22, Arturo Kahinda, 43, Minard Villacapa, 51, Lucresia Merinder, 55, Luzminda Arcivido, 56, and Norfely de la Cruz, 60. The three others were minors, aged 7, 8 and 16, said the police report.
The injured passengers, who sustained fractures in different parts of their bodies, were immediately brought to Ignacio Arroyo Memorial District Hospital in Isabela.
Three passengers were released, as of Sunday, while the rest were transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod.
In an interview with ABS-CBN Bacolod, truck driver Cezar Orofel, who is now detained at the Isabela Police Station, said he intended to stop the truck from going downhill by ramming it into a big rock but the vehicle fell instead and turned turtle. (FREEMAN)
