Aklanons show strong devotion to Sr. Sto. Niño

May Joven - The Freeman

KALIBO, AKLAN , Philippines   â€” Notwithstanding the Yolanda devastation, the people of Aklan still have strong faith to Sr. Sto. Niño and were even thankful that they survive the calamities through His blessings.

Thousands of Aklanons and even local and foreign tourists flocked to the church and attended the Mass held last Jan 19 in celebration of the Ati-Atihan Festival, after which they joined the merry-making with the participating "tribes."

Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-o of Kalibo Parish Church, in his homily, told the faithful that the Ati-Atihan Festival was not only about colors on uniforms or on the body, nor the variety of sounds that each drum produces, but rather the sincere heart of every Aklanon that speaks of great faith and trust in God.

"This is about Aklanons' gratitude to him in return to all the blessings that they received and are about to receive," Tala-o said.

The bishop also reminded Aklanons that the face of Sto. Niño is not only for children but for all adults, giving inspiration to continue to serve God. "Let the ashes, the paints and the ragged outfits now speak of your sincere return to God," he told Aklanons.  (FREEMAN)
