Dumaguete City to commemorate Rizal Day

CEBU, Philippines - The Dumaguete City government will be joining the rest of the country in commemorating the 117th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, tomorrow (December 30), at the city’s Quezon Park.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Rizal: Inspirasyon Noon, Ngayon at Bukas.”

City Hall employees and members of non- government  organization as well as of national and local government agencies in the city, will gather for the event, which has this year’s theme, “Rizal: Inspirasyon Noon, Ngayon at Bukas.”

The program will start with a parade at 7 a.m. to be led by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling, city councilors, Governor Roel Degamo, Vice Governor Mark Macias, three congressmen of Negros Oriental: Provincial Board members, Brig. Gen. Francisco Patrimonio, commander of  the 302nd Infantry Brigade, Supt. Aleth Virtucio, OIC-director of the Police Provincial Office, Supt. James Goforth of  Dumaguete Police, Fire Marshall Chief Inspector Arnulfo Sayson, DepEd officials and presidents of universities in the city and officials of various civic organizations here.

City Administrator William Ablong said a flag ceremony will follow and then a wreath-laying at the Rizal monument with volleys, taps and sounding of sirens. Ecumenical invocation will be led by Bishop Julito Cortes of the Dumaguete Diocese and Rev. Ed Samson of the UCCP Church. Guest speaker of the ceremony will be Judge Crescencio Tan of RTC-Dumaguete Branch 30.  (FREEMAN)
