Firecracker store fire: Teener dies

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 15-year-old boy died, while his companion was wounded after a fire broke out inside a makeshift firecracker store in the public plaza in Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

The victims, identified as Jomar Palo, 15, and Rodrigo Bayotas, 35, were sleeping inside the store when the fire broke out at around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday. The store was owned by Wilfredo Bayotas.

Palo died before arriving at the hospital, while Bayotas sustained burn wounds.

Investigators believed that the fire was initiated by several young men found running away from the store before the fire broke out. Two other nearby stores were destroyed in the blaze. – (FREEMAN)
