Edgar Allan Vilbar - The Philippine Star

ORMOC CITY, Philippines — At least 33 recruitment agencies for work abroad and 21 for local employment are expected to participate in a job fair in this city on Dec. 13 and 14 for the hiring of at least 4,000 workers from Eastern Visayas.

The SSS,GSIS, Philhealth and Civil Service Commission will also set up offices during the event, spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment with its attached agencies such as POEA, Overseas Workers Welfare Association and TESDA, and in partnership with the city local government, national government agencies and the private sector.

POEA Deputy Administrator Amy Reyes said the job fair is intended to lessen the economic impact in areas heavily affected by typhoon Yolanda and help the displaced workers for their recovery from the devastation.

The Ormoc City job fair will also double as a relief mission, which will be conducted in Barangay Valencia of this city, on the 13th, and then the hiring activity at the City Hall the following day.

"The combined relief, medical and jobs fair activities are expected to help not only job seekers but also children who will be treated with toy giving and counseling programs," Reyes said. — (FREEMAN)
