Cayetano to Leyteños: Make opportunities from disaster

ISABEL, LEYTE , Philippines   â€” Observing the sorry state of perennial crops and trees during his recent visit, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano urges the people of this town to organize themselves and establish a livelihood community as an alternative means until their traditional farm products can fully recover.

"Coconut trees generally recover in seven years time, we can't wait for that," he said, in the presence of town Mayor Greg Cerillo and other government and barangay officials.

Explaining the need to earn a living from available resources, Cayetano cited backyard piggery, goat raising and cottage industry as among the options. "You need not go far to organize one, your neighbors can be members," he said, assuring them that his office will support their endeavor.

The senator further urged the residents of this town to act fast and do the necessary things to facilitate the release of support fund and materials. "Seize opportunities from this disaster," he told them.  (FREEMAN)
