Spat over a chair in a party: Barangay official guns down man, hurts another
CEBU, Philippines - Two groups were seated on their respective tables during the pre-fiesta party in Panit-an town of Capiz last Saturday.
But when Ronnie Dorado, 29, from one table went over to the other table of Barangay Councilman Basilio Dibes Jr, 36, and pulled a chair, a heated argument between the two erupted.
Dibes, who was allegedly drunk at the time, drew a gun and shot Dorado. Another man, Rustico Diestro, 56, tried to intervene and pacify, but he was also shot by the barangay official.
Both victims were rushed to the Capiz Emmanuel Hospital but Dorado was declared dead on arrival.
Senior Supt. Domingo Cabillan, Capiz Police chief, said the Dibes, of Brgy. Agkilo in Panit-an, was immediately arrested after the shooting incident.
Dibes surrendered his .9mm-caliber pistol, Cabillan said, but added that, while the gun was licensed, the barangay official had no permit to carry firearm outside of residence (PTCFOR). (FREEMAN)
