Lalaine Jimenea - The Freeman

MAASIN CITY , Philippines   â€” A sea of yellow-clad people received President Noynoy Aquino and his party at the city plaza here yesterday in a political rally where he endorsed local Liberal Party bets, considered the underdogs against the ruling Mercados and allies, most of whom are incumbents.

The Team Pnoy was welcomed by businessman Robert Castanares, LP’s bet for governor, congressional bet Marissa Lerias and Maasin mayoralty bet, former Southern Leyte governor Rosette Lerias.

First to arrive at the venue of the rally, the plaza in front of the church here, were senatorial bets Ramon “Jun” Magsaysay, Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, Koko Pimentel’s siter Gwen and Sonny Angara’s wife Tootsie.

The president arrived with DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and welcomed on stage by Lerias. He told the crowd that this was a fulfillment of his promise to return here after his 2010 election campaign.

Earlier, a representative of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV touted his candidate’s virtues and why Southern Leytenos should vote for Team PNoy bets.

Team PNoy officers told The Freeman that the president flew into Maasin City at about 4 p.m. from Calbayog City in Samar where the party had another proclamation rally.

President Aquino also inspected a P58-million port project in Calbayog together with Senator Franklin Drilon and DOTC Secretary Joseph Abaya.

All candidates and their representatives took turns in pushing for the president’s “matuwid na daan”” philosophy and rallied the crowd to reject the traditional politicians, especially those identified with the past administration. (FREEMAN)
