100 houses razed in Bacolod fire
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — About 100 houses were razed in Puroks Katilingban, Kawayan and neighboring areas in Barangay Banago here noontime yesterday, the Bureau of Fire Protection said.
Chief Insp. Bartolome Beliran, city fire marshal, said the fire began at 12:08 p.m. and was declared under control at 1:45 p.m., but they have yet to determine the cause as they were still conducting an investigation.
The fire, which broke out in a thickly-populated area adjacent to the Domingo Lacson National High School (DLNHS) and the oil depot of Petron Corp., reached the general alarm level.
Fire trucks from the nearby cities of Talisay, Silay and Bago, and volunteer brigades reinforced the BFP Bacolod personnel.
Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the families who lost their homes will be accommodated at the DLNHS as their temporary shelter. They will initially be provided with food packs, he said, adding that personnel of the Department of Social Services and Development were deployed to assist them. (FREEMAN)
