Hit-and-run driver kills boy, injures pa

CEBU, Philippines - A 5-year old boy was killed after he was sideswiped by a hit-and-run driver while waiting for a ride home with his father in Barangay Atabayan, Tigbauan, Iloilo.

Marky Legada died after suffering a head injury when he was hit by a van 9:15 p.m., Monday.

His father, Leomar, 29, survived the incident with a fractured leg and injuries on his head and stomach.

Senior Inspector Janelo Gepana, Tigbauan police chief, said the victims just came from a party and were on their way home to  Brgy. San Juan, Molo, Iloilo City when the incident happened.

“The father apparently had one bottle too many,” Gepana said.

Leomar lied down on the edge of the road which prompted the little boy to get on top of his father.

It was then that a speeding vehicle sideswiped the two victims.

Instead of rushing to the victims’ aid, the driver sped off.

Marky and Leomar were rushed to Guimbal District Hospital but Marky was declared dead.  (FREEMAN)
