13 boys saved from recruiter
ORMOC CITY, Philippines - Thirteen boys, 10 of whom reportedly minors, were rescued by the police last Feb. 22 from a reportedly gay man claiming to be a representative of the Commission on Higher Education and offering scholarships to them.
The police, upon investigation, found out the so-called scholarship offer was a scam or a ruse of the suspect to sexually molest the boys.
The suspect, known only as a certain “Jerson,†claimed to be from a barangay in Villaba town in Leyte. Two others, one of whom was the owner of the house where the boys were taken, have been included in the anti-human trafficking charges filed by the police.
The police were also looking into the possibility that a big syndicate may be behind the recruitment of young boys, who were allegedly told by Jerson to prepare for travel to Manila. (FREEMAN)
