Cop dead, 5 hurt in road collision

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines —A policeman was killed, while five others were injured in a vehicular accident at Brgy. Mansilingan of this city close to midnight on Thursday.

Police Officer 1 Rio Saledo, 31, a resident of Aklan, succumbed to multiple injuries at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center (BAMC), according to Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche, head of the city’s Traffic Management Unit.

Injured were Sr. Insp. Edison Garcia, 29, and PO1 Ian John Lindo. They are now recuperating at the BAMC, while the other injured—Joseph Rojas, Emmanuel Varela, 49, and Ceasar Vincent Aguilar, 46, both residents of this city, are now confined at the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital (Riverside Hospital).

Investigation showed that the Isuzu pickup driven by Garcia and carrying Saledo and Lindo, collided with the Toyota Fortuner driven by Joseph, brother of Bacolod Councilor Roberto Rojas. (FREEMAN)
