Ubi Festival showcases best products in Bohol
TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – The 13th annual Ubi Festival competition, staged in this city recently in various categories, bared the best of the bests of the yummy root crop, ubi and wild ones.
In the “Pinaka†contests, the winner in the heaviest kinampay variety was Baclayon town, represented by Galicano Jayagan, who also won in the iniling variety. The winner in the baligonhon variety was Carmen town, represented by Nicolas Cabusao.
First prize winner in the tam-isan contest was Carmen town thru Antonio Omamalin, while Lila town, represented by Samuel Namit, won in the binanag variety, and Baclayon town again for the kabus-ok variety.
In the contest for wild ubi species, Balilihan town won for its kot variety of Gregorio Abne and its bot variety of Zoro Teel. Abne further won for his lima-lima variety and Romeo Cleunar of Panglao for his apale variety.
In the ubi processed products, first placer was Laura Jamila of Tagbilaran City, while in the healthy lumpia special contest, the winner was Beverly Cuajao of Cogon Night High, also from this city.
Alburquerque town clinched the Most Cooperative LGU and the Best Booth awards over 17 other participants in the festival.
Junard Tyros of Maribojoc town bested 12 others for the top prize in the ubi-eating contest. — (FREEMAN)
