Bible-sharing activity used to help reform Southern Leyte jail inmates
MAASIN CITY, SO. LEYTE, Philippines — The Southern Leyte Provincial Jail (SLPJ) management embarks on reforming prison boarders with bible-sharing activities.
Assistant Provincial Warden Joselito Magallanes, in a PIA-8 report, said the organization has developed home-grown bible readers and sharers from among the inmates of SLPJ. They take turns to lead in the Bible reading and discussions once a week while reflecting on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The activity obviously has touched most of the lives of the prison boarders where he noted that they have become more restrained and calmed in treating each other inside the prison cells, said Magallanes.
“Since we have embarked on the formation of the Order of the Morning Star, a Bible-based organization among the prison boarders, I noticed remarkable changes from among them,†Magallanes said.
He reported that one participating inmate, who was transported to the Abuyog Regional Prison to further serve prison terms, introduced the same activity that was accepted and implemented now at the ARP.
“I believe that the corrections and desired transformations of these prison boarders will not be totally effective behind bars alone, however, giving them the opportunities to hear from the Bible readings and somehow reflect on these passages wherein changes may come from within themselves,†he said.
