Women’s group backs Galenzoga
BAYBAY CITY, Philippines — A group of 276 women from 23 barangays in this city had aired its support for mayoralty candidate Marilou “Malot†Veloso Galenzoga.
The group, created last year and named itself as “Women’s Group Support Malot Veloso Galenzoga Movement,†was originally intended as barangay clusters for women to engage in home-based livelihood projects.
Galenzoga, who administered the oathtaking of leaders of the group last January 12, had pushed for the realization of various projects that would provide income to the women in every barangay that comprised the organization.
The women leaders and members of the group told The Freeman that this advocacy of Galenzoga had made them realized that here comes a Baybayanon woman who can bring reforms and changes for the city and for the benefit of the women constituents.
Now is the time to make a change not only for themselves but also for the welfare of their children, said a woman leader who requested anonimity.
The livelihood projects that Galenzoga is now espousing prompted the women’s group to decide to support the opposition candidate. “It’s time to really make a change and only Malot Galenzoga can do this, after years of despair under the present administration,†said the women leaders.
Galenzoga, for her part, said she will also urge soon the men in the barangays to form their own group to help each other in various livelihood projects. (FREEMAN)
