Maayon, Capiz: Fire destroys councilor’s van

The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The service vehicle of a local official in Maayon town of Capiz was gobbled up by fire the other day, according to PNA report in Western Visayas.

Report reaching here Saturday said the L-300 van was parked beside the road in the town’s public market at Poblacion Tabuc, Maayon when it caught fire.

FO2 Marlon Garbo, information officer and arson investigator of the Roxas City Bureau of Fire Protection, said the van, worth P80,000, was owned by Maayon Councilor Wildy Doronio, a resident of the town’s East Villaflores.

Initial investigation conducted by the Maayon Police revealed that an electrical short circuit inside the vehicle triggered the fire.

Doronio parked his van near the town’s public market and boarded a motorcycle on his way toward the poblacion’s covered gym to attend a Christmas party.

But the councilor was surprised to learn that his service vehicle was already in debris, apart from its four tires that were spared by the fire.

Meanwhile, the bayanihan effort made by residents and the responding town’s fire truck prevented the fire to spread to other adjoining structures. —From the wires (FREEMAN)
