Bohol Police scores high in solving crimes

Ric V. Obedencio - The Freeman

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — There may be many criminal cases still unresolved this far yet, but the Bohol Provincial Police Office recently reported that it had achieved an average of 52.72 percent in crime solution efficiency, which is now referred to as “crime clearance efficiency” (CCE).

This achievement was based on the report of Sr. Supt. Constantino Barot, Jr., BPPO director, covering the last 11 months or from January to November this year.

BPPO records showed that the command posted the highest CC at 64 percent last October, with a total of 172 crimes, while the lowest was at 42 percent last January, when a total of 245 crimes were recorded.

In police parlance, a crime is considered solved when the last action taken is the filing of the case in appropriate court.

Comparative data presented by Barot during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting last week showed the province has been averaging a total of 206.18 in crime volume per month during the said period, or a total of 2,268 crimes. This number was lower than 230 per month during the same period last year, which had a total of 2,535 crimes.

The towns that attained 100 percent CCE were: Balilihan, Bien-Unido, Candijay, Calrin, Dagohoy, Danao, Duero, Guindulman, Loboc, Loon, Maribojoc, Panglao, Sevilla and Tubigon.

The town of Talibon topped them all with 83 percent CCE, followed by Carmen with 80 percent, the towns of Calape, Lila and San Miguel with 67 percent each.

The towns of Baclayon, Catigbian, Dauis, Jagna and Loay had 50 percent CCE each, Ubay town with 40 percent, Tagbilaran City with 29 percent, and Sagbayan town with 25 percent. Others had none.

Barot told the PPOC, presided at the time by Gov. Edgar Chatto, that preventive measures such as fielding of motorcycle anti-street crime operatives or MASCO, patrol and visibility in remote barangays have contributed in curbing or reducing crime incidents in past months. (FREEMAN)
