TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  — Another minor was shot dead early evening last Friday here, an incident that puzzled authorities and the neighborhood of sitio Candait of Dampas District, this city.

The 16-year-old victim, Ireneo Agsoy, died instantly after sustaining a gunshot wound from a .45-caliber pistol aimed to the head and penetrated downwards inside the body. This led to the theory that the victim, who was described as tall for his age, was shot while on his knees.

The City Police received an information relayed through a radio call from a tanod of Dampas, reporting the shooting incident that took place in that sitio.

Duty investigator, PO2 Silvan Palacio, together with the duty responding team, led by SPO2 Rolando Binangbang, proceeded to the scene and saw the body of a young man, later identified as Ireneo Agsoy a resident of the place.

Initial investigation showed Agsoy was seen earlier that day at the house of a friend identified as Cris Paredes for the payment of a goat that they had bought, but he left for a while to have his money changed. However, he no longer returned and at around 6:20 p.m. Paredes’ cousin said the victim was being shot.

Paredes went to check his friend and found the victim already lying dead on the ground. The SOCO team led by SPO2 Florentino Diola proceeded to the crime scene and recovered an empty shell of a .45-caliber bullet and a cigarette butt.

The physician on duty, Dr. Teomin Casano, of the City Health Office, conducted a post-mortem examination on the victim.

A slug of .45-caliber bullet was extracted from the body of the victim, while Palacio said they already have a lead on the identity of the suspect, but is still tracking down his whereabouts. (FREEMAN)
