Fetuses found in dumpsite, grocery store

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines  — Two fetuses were found in separate areas in the city last Tuesday, the first of which was found at the dump at Brgy Calajunan in Mandurriao district.

Chief Insp. Efren Lozada, Mandurriao Police chief, said a scavenger found the male fetus at around 8 a.m. from a pile of garbage gathered from the areas of the city’s Arevalo district and from Oton town in Iloilo province.

Lozada said that it was only the third fetus found at the dumpsite this month.

The second fetus was found inside the comfort room of Iloilo Supermart-Molo branch, said Chief Insp. Rhea Santos, Molo Police chief, adding that it was about 2-3 months.

The store’s janitor, Mike Sombilla, found the fetus inside the garbage can while he was cleaning the women’s comfort room.

Jose Camandero, a village watchman-cum-volunteer traffic auxiliary, said he saw a young woman, around 18 to 19 years old, with blood stained at the backs of her pants before the incident. The woman was walking to the store’s comfort room, but he thought she was just having her monthly period.  (FREEMAN)
