Aussie envoy graces alumni confab in Bohol
TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – Australian ambassador to the Philippines Bill Tweddell was the keynote speaker of the recent National Alumni Convention of Filipino scholars in Australia, according to Rowena Yu Bongcaras of the Social Economic and Environment Management (SEEM) cluster under the Office of the Governor of Bohol.
Bongcaras, a recipient of an Australian scholarship grant herself, said the convention was aimed at providing a venue for shared experiences to showcase updates, chart new directions of the Philippine-Australian Alumni Association Inc (PA3i), elect officers of the association and equip them (scholars) and convention participants with knowledge on good governance.
The convention tackled several important subjects of discussion including Gov. Edgar Chatto’s Elements of Good Governance with open forum following Tweddell’s speech.
Graham Gulliver, vice-president for Australian-Philippines Business Council and who was with the ambassador, talked on the Current Trends in Corporate Governance.
A highlight of the event was the signing of the memorandum of agreement between the PA3i, represented by Arvin Yana, and multinational, represented by Gulliver, to pursue the tapping of PA3i members for multinational consulting and human resource requirements.
Capping the convention were a festival night and awarding ceremonies for the Best in Festival Costume, Best in Festival Presentation, Stars of the Night, Biggest Chapter Delegation, Best Performing Chapter and Recognition of Bohol as 2012 Host and New Lifetime Members. (FREEMAN)
