Ormoc resident, linked to drugs, killed in Baybay

BAYBAY CITY , Philippines — Another Ormoc City resident, who the police said was known to dabble in drugs, was found “salvaged” at the national highway along Brgy. Bitanhuan here yesterday.

The victim, 35-year-old Alfredo Obien, jobless, was identified by his father Guillermo, who together with the Ormoc City policemen, claimed the body and brought this to Ormoc.

PO3 Noel Aranas, of the Baybay City Police, said Barangay Chairman Sisinio Veloso informed the police that the tortured body of a naked man was found thrown off a bridge. When the police got to the scene, they found the body, in black briefs, with stab and bullet wounds.

While residents claimed they heard three shots fired at around dawn, Aranas said the police recovered no bullet shells at the site and believed that the body was just thrown there after getting killed in another location.

The victim’s father said his son was picked up by two men on a white van from his residence in Brgy. Cogon of Ormoc, the night before his body was found.

Aranas, however, said that residents in the area near where Obien’s body was found saw a black pickup which cruised by without its lights on, until it sped off the scene. (FREEMAN)
