Teacher accused of locking up two pupils inside CR

- Jennifer P. Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY , Philippines  — A grade 1 teacher of Clairemont International Grade School in Cabatuan town of Iloilo is now facing complaint over his alleged “peculiar” way of disciplining school children.

In a complained lodged before the Women and Children’s Desk of Cabatuan Police Station, the elder sister (“Amy”) of the “victims” alleged that her younger brother and another classmate was locked up for several minutes inside the comfort room of the school last September 25.

Amy pointed at the teacher, 22-year-old John Louie Carno, resident of Badiangan, Iloilo and the adviser of Grade 1 class, as the culprit.

In answer to Amy’s allegations, Carno also complained the former for maligning him. In a blotter lodged three days after the incident, Carno narrated that at around 9:45 a.m. that day, they had a dance rehearsal with seven Grade 1 pupils, including Amy’s brother.

After the practice, Carno ordered his pupils to get inside the classroom while he will supervise the practice of the other pupils. The pupils immediately obeyed except for Amy’s brother and another pupil.

To discipline the two boys, Carno claimed he put them inside the comfort room for 2 to 3 minutes, after which he let them out and ate lunch with them at the canteen, together with the other teachers.

Shortly after, Carno said that Amy confronted him about what happened, an act that humiliated him in front of the others.

It was not yet known if formal charges would be filed by the pupils’ family against Carno or by Carno against Amy.  (FREEMAN)
