Bohol dengue cases rise to 890
TAGBILARAN CITY , Philippines — Dengue cases soared to its second highest annual record in the last five years, even before the end of the 3rd quarter this year, at an alarming rate of around 200 cases a month since June.
Provincial health officer, Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot, said that dengue already reached 890 cases as of September 12, this year with 12 deaths.
The number is second highest compared to even annual record in the past five years and 4th in the last 10 years. The 12th death from dengue this year was recorded on September 7.
Dengue cases not yet included in the weekly report after September 12 were about 10 cases reported last week which makes the actual number of dengue cases around 900 by now. The highest surge was recorded in 2010 which reached 2,647 and this year’s record is racing to rank second.
With 12 deaths out of the 890, the fatality rate is now pegged at 1.35 percent compared to the 1.66 percent by the middle of August when the number of cases reached 663 with 11 deaths. In late June, the fatality rate reached 3.66 percent with 273 cases and 10 deaths. (FREEMAN)
